24h à deux ( Couple’s day ), 2021

Chromaluxe print on aluminium. 120cmx 82,5cm

A metaphorical sequence of 24 photographs of 2 single mattresses depicting a couple’s daily routine with frictions, coupling, the ups and downs of the relationship. Inspired by post-structuralists writers such as Jacques Derrida’s theory of deconstruction that challenges the idea of frozen sculpture and the notion of a direct relationship between signifier and signified, and Roland Barthes’s ‘The Death of the Author’ 1976 essay : the mattresses are a ‘floating signifier’ and a palimpsest.

« For M-A D the human print (memories, dreams, emotions, fluids) isn’t on the outside layer of a mattress but at the heart of it. In the case of spring mattresses the emotional charge is engraved in the coil springs of its structure » Space Lapse catalogue RSS ’21
